Description

Mid 19th century with later additions. 2-storey over raised basement, 5-bay, near symmetrical, rectangular- plan block with single storey wing extension at rear. White-painted harl with painted ashlar margins and dressings; base course; quoin strips. Projecting eaves; exposed timbers.

SW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 3 bays at centre; arcaded loggia of 3 round arches added in the 20th century; modern steps and cast iron railings at centre. Window at centre (former door) flanked by 2 modern doors (former windows), 3 windows symmetrically disposed at 1st floor. Gable to outer right, full-height canted bay with dividing cornice. Block to outer left; projecting tripartite window.

NE ELEVATION: gable to outer left, modern door at ground, window at 1st floor; 3 bays to right with single storey, L-plan service block advanced at ground. 2 gabled dormers at centre, window to left, small window at centre and tall stair window to right; taller outer right block, single window.

Lying-pane sash and case windows; 8-pane sash and case dormers. Grey slate roof, harled, coped ridge stacks, octagonal cans.

Statement of Interest

Pier Road was once the avenue to Ardenconnel but was developed for additional housing from the 1830s. Ardenmohr is shown on the 1st edition map.
