James Smith, circa 1855. 2-storey, 3-bay rectangular- plan villa.
White-painted harl with painted ashlar dressings and margins. Eaves cornice; quoin strips; base course.
S ELEVATION: 3 symmetrical bays. Projecting rectangular 5-light window support bridging decorative-cast iron balcony on modillion cornice. Door at centre, 2-leaf panelled door, half-glazed vestibule door, balcony forming porch over soffit with recessed panels and simple moulding. 3 windows symmetrically disposed at 1st floor. Steps to entrance flanked by dies with decorative urns.
W ELEVATION: 2-bay main block with lower slightly recessed block to outer left. Windows symmetrically disposed in 2 outer left bays, small window immediately to right of penultimate bay; window to outer right at 1st floor.
E ELEVATION: 4-bay main house with single storey kitchen wing advanced to outer right. Lean-to garage at ground outer left, rubble wall dividing garage from single storey wing. Windows near-symmetrically placed at 1st floor, outer right bay slightly advanced.
3-pane plate glass sash and case windows; casement windows at 1st floor. Grey slate roof; sandstone, corniced wallhead stacks, octagonal cans.
INTERIOR: hall with winding stair with decorative cast-iron balusters; simple plasterwork; cupola with egg and dart and rosette plasterwork. Dining room and drawing room with compartmentalised ceilings; figurative consoles supporting beams; Corinthian pilasters.
The house is shown on the 1st edition map. It was apparently built as the dower house of Invergare. Invergare is listed separately.
