Description

Later 19th century. Single storey and attic, 3-bay cottage. Painted render. Painted architraved margins.

E (BOWLING GREEN ROAD) ELEVATION: 2-storey gabled bay advanced at centre (upper storey later addition); fanlit door to E; windows to N and S returns; window at 1st floor to E. Windows in flanking outer bays. Gabled dormer windows above outer bays.

N (HIGH STREET) ELEVATION: twin-gabled; gable to left taller and broader. Bipartite window to right of centre and window to right, to gable to left. 2 windows to gable to right. Variety of glazing; some 12-pane glazing and some plate glass glazing in timber sash and case

windows; some modern glazing. Painted coped skews. Painted rendered gablehead stacks to S and both gables to N. Graded grey slates. Decorative terraccotta cans.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND RAILINGS: very low saddleback-coped rubble wall to High Street and Bowling Green Road, raised at angle; surmounted by cast-iron finialled railings; similarly detailed cast-iron gate.

Statement of Interest

Ivy Cottage is marked on the OS Map of 1894. While the upper section of the entrance bay does not sit comfortably the clair voie railings and elevations to the High Street are of interest.
