Description

Circa 1800. Walled garden, sited to N of Netherdale House. Ashlar coped rubble, brick-lined with pink wash, approximately 120m x 140m.

SUMMERHOUSE: 2-storey Gothic, against N wall; brick, rendered, with contrasting ashlar dressings. Panelled door to centre in broad canted pavilion advanced and breaking eaves, windows flanking, 3 windows at 1st floor; central window with pointed arch. Single bays of rectangular-plan body flanking with piended roofs, each with panelled door at ground floor (one 2-leaf), small window to 1st floor. Sash and case windows, small-pane glazing pattern. Gothic tracery pattern to pointed window. Grey slates swept eaves to pavilion; clay ridge tiles and finials.

INTERIOR: classical timber chimneypieces to each floor, 1st floor room more elaborate, simple plasterwork, Greenhouses adjoining to left, in ruinous condition.

SUNDIAL: at centre of garden; horizontal dial on ashlar columnar pedestal; inscribed James Rose Innes of Netherdale (see notes of Netherdale House listing).

GATEPIERS: to S; coursed ashlar, corniced with pyramidal caps. Currently with wooden gate.
