Description

Mid 18th century. 2-storey, 3-bay traditional rectangular-plan farmhouse with lower 2-storey byre and loft. Harled rubble flagstone.

SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central doorway with boarded door and letterbox fanlight; single window at 1st floor above (upper sash replaced); single windows to ground and 1st floors in bays to outer left and right. Byre with loft above adjoining to NE.

NW (REAR) ELEVATION: single storey lean-to with corrugated roof; single windows to both floors in bay to outer left. Byre adjoining: glazed

square opening at ground (probably former muck hole).

SW ELEVATION: single windows to both floors to outer right.

NE (BYRE) ELEVATION: gabled with 2 openings to 1st floor.

INTERIOR (BYRE ONLY): flagstone floor, whitewashed walls; timber joists. 8-pane timber sash and case windows. Flag slate roof; stone

ridging; coped gablehead stack; 2 cast-iron skylights to rear.

OUTBUILDINGS AND BOUNDARY WALLS: single storey, pitch-roofed outbuilding (ruinous 1995) to NW of byre. Drystone wall enclosing garden to SE of house.

Statement of Interest

The NMRS photograph shows the byre unharled and the flat-roofed garage/store as pitch-roofed and turf-thatched.
