Henry E Clifford, dated 1917. 2-storey and basement Baronial lodge house with single storey and attic section, sited on falling ground. Coursed, rock-dressed masonry at ground, squared and snecked bull-faced sandstone at 1st floor and to tower, with ashlar dressings and base course. Harled rear. Corbel course dividing floors and supporting slightly jettied 1st floor.
SW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 3-bay. Circular entrance stair tower projecting at centre with door on return to left in advanced ashlar surround with saw-tooth coping and roll-moulded, keystoned door surround bearing date and with carved initials. Under stair window to front and tall, narrow landing window above. Crowstepped gable
to right with window to each floor and carved heraldic panel in gablehead. Bay to left with window at ground close to entrance and blank wallhead at attic above.
NE (REAR) ELEVATION: gabled projection to left, lean-to masking bay to right at ground. Irregular fenestration.
SE ELEVATION: window off-centre left at ground and 2 1st floor windows under eaves flanking corbelled chimney breast of wallhead stack above.
NW ELEVATION: blank gable.
Small-pane metal casements and top-hopper windows to front and side. Horizontal-pane timber(?) casements to rear. Grey slates to conical roof of tower with lead ball finial. Large purple slates to main roof with glazed ridge tiles and ashlar gablehead stacks. Beak skewputts to crowstepped gable. Exposed rafters to overhanging eaves.
INTERIOR: not seen, 1995.
BOUNDARY WALL: rubble boundary wall with semi-circular coping shielding falling ground. Timber pedestrian gate.
H E Clifford was working at Sorn Castle in 1905 and 1908-9, and built the main entrance lodge and gateway in the latter years: see separate listings.
