Built c.1590 but remodelled 1770-1. Oblong. 3 storeys.
Coursed rubble. Skew-gabled. Slated roof. Semi-circular newel-stair-tower (window dated 1770) in centre of S. front.
Interior featureless. Steading not included.
Probably built for John Laing who acquired lands in 1588.
Granted 1636 to Sir Ludovic Stewart, Advocate, whose
daughter and heiress, Katherine, married Henry, 3rd Lord
Cardross, distinguished Covenanter. Remodelled for their
great-grandson David, 11th Earl of Buchan, who made it his
residence. It passed from him to his nephew David Erskine
who succeeded him in 1829.
