Early 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay traditional house with later additions and alterations. Aberdeen bond granite rubble with long and short dressings finely finished to margins. Base course; projecting cills; long and short quoins; eaves cornice; eaves blocking course.
N (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical; doorway corniced with consoles to centre of ground floor, reached by 3 stone steps, panelled pilastered door with infilled fanlight; windows flanking to left and right; regular fenestration to 1st floor; irregularly placed skylights to attic floor.
W ELEVATION: asymmetrical; single storey wing adjoining to ground floor, irregular modern fenestration, panelled timber door and window to left return, eaves blocking course; window to left of 1st floor, flanked to right by small window, round-arched opening centred in gablehead.
S ELEVATION: not seen 1999.
E ELEVATION: gabled; flat-roofed wing obscuring ground floor, small window to centre of 1st floor, round-arched window centred in gablehead of attic floor.
Predominantly 4-pane timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slate roof with lead ridge. Coped granite ashlar stacks with octagonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen 1999.
BOUNDARY WALLS: low coped granite wall to N of house; coped rubble walls to E and W.
Originally called Anne Place House, 55 Westburn Road is typical of the early 19th century houses on Westburn Road, which are of similar materials, but more often on a smaller scale, being predominantly single storey, or 2-storey semi-detached.
