Mid 19th century. 2-storey and 2-storey with attic, 6-bay pair of traditional houses with 2-storey house adjoining at rear. Chlorite-slate rubble with large quoins, projecting cills and slab lintels; dry-dash to rear.
NOS 38, 40 AND 42:
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Bays to right of centre with modern door, windows in flanking bays and regular fenestration to 1st floor. Bays to left as above but with part-glazed panelled timber door and plate glass fanlight off-set to right of centre, blocked door to left and 2 polygonal-roofed canted dormer windows.
E ELEVATION: gabled bay with window to each floor at right.
W ELEVATION: gabled bay with window to left at ground and No 44 (see below) adjoining at outer left.
N (REAR) ELEVATION: variety of elements to altered elevation projecting bay under catslide roof to left and piend-roofed bay to right.
NO 44:
W ELEVATION: asymmetrical elevation with door to approximate centre, adjacent window to left and small window above, windows to each floor in flanking bays, that to right breaking eaves into gabled dormerhead and further door to outer right.
N ELEVATION: gabled bay to right with large modern window at ground right and single window to 1st floor left, further window and door to ground at outer left.
E ELEVATION: projecting gable to right with window at 1st floor, and blank recessed bay to left.
Mostly 2-pane upper sashes over plate glass, 4-pane glazing pattern to dormers, all in timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slates. Coped ashlar stacks with some cans. Overhanging eaves with plain bargeboarding.
ANCILLARY BUILDING: T-plan ancillary to rear of No 44, rubble and dry-dash with slate roof; modern glazing and door.
Group with 13-25, 35-45, 4-8, 12-16, 22-26, 30-36 and 46-50. The present houses in Kenmore Street were built on the site of 18th century flax spinners cottages, and the houses adjoining to the rear of every close were used as cow byres before conversion to dwellings.
