Description

Dated 1827, with later alterations (including Allan Stevenson, 1903-4). 2-storey and attic, 5-bay hotel on corner site. Painted harl. Bracketed timber eaves.

NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: advanced, gabled entrance porch; 2-leaf timber door; single gabled attic dormer aligned above. Single windows flanking at ground and 1st floor. Single windows at ground, 1st and attic floors to advanced gabled bay to left. Broad oriel window to lower height gabled bay to right. Steps to outer right.

SW ELEVATION: gabled, with central window to ground and 1st floors.

SE ELEVATION: predominantly obscured by single storey and 2-storey additions.

NE ELEVATION: not seen 1999.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

Small-pane modern timber windows. Slate roof; ridge and pitch stacks; circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

Statement of Interest

Important for its siting adjacent both to the Brig O'Doon and New Bridge of Doon. Former shell grotto near site, marked on earlier Ordnance Survey maps (now destroyed).
