Description

George A Lawson (Sculptor), 1892. James A Morris (Architect). Stepped Aberdeen granite square-plan plinth; bronze relief tablets to all faces depicting 4 separate scenes; pulvinated frieze; surmounting bronze figure of Robert Burns facing S.

RAILINGS: replacement grey iron railings enclose site in circular-plan.

Statement of Interest

J Moore (founder) inscribed on statue base. The original highly elaborate iron railings and lamp standards enclosing statue, as shown in NMRS photograph dated 1893 (see References), donated by Sir William Arrol, were removed during World War II as a contribution to the war effort. Panels by G A Lawson, George E Bissell and David McGill.
