Description

Early 19th century. 2-storey and basement, 3-bay house forming part of terrace. Tuck-pointed sandstone rubble. Base course; eaves course; cornice; blocking course. Painted margins to window openings.

N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central cavetto-splayed square-headed doorpiece; steps to recessed timber door; letterbox fanlight; single window aligned above at 1st floor. Regular fenestration to flanking bays at ground and 1st floors; glass blocks to basement openings.

Modern windows. Grey slate roof; stone skews; corniced, gablehead brick stacks; circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Charlotte Street was laid out to the South side of the Citadel parallel with the North side of Wellington Square, its South side sharing a back lane (Mews Lane). With a higher roofline than the adjacent house to left (No 5) its roofline conforms to a terrace scheme, with a near unified roofline running from Nos 3, 7-15 (Odd Nos).
