Description

Later 19th century. 2-storey, 10-bay mirrored pair of tenements. Coursed, squared sandstone. Base course; eaves course; cornice. Architraves to window openings.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: steps to central architraved and corniced doorpieces; central bays rise to form gabled wallhead stacks; timber doors; letterbox fanlights; single windows flanking at ground and 1st floor; bipartite windows at ground and 1st floor to outer bays.

Plate glass timber sash and case windows to outer bays; 4-pane to inner bays (to 1st floor only to No 6). Grey slate roof; stone skews; coped gablehead, ridge and wallhead stacks; circular cans.

INTERIORS: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Follows the line of the corner-block site of Nos 2, 4 Charlotte Street and 43 Fort Street. The block provides an interesting example of the development of 19th century architecture in distinction to the earlier 19th century houses opposite (see separate list descriptions).
