Description

Mid 18th century, with later alterations. 3-storey and attic, 3-bay, rectangular-plan tenement with ground floor shop. Harl. Modillion cornice to shopfront.

E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: entrance to modern shopfront at ground to outer right; aluminium glazed door; letterbox fanlight; timber door to outer left; rectangular-grid letterbox fanlight; shop window between. Canted bays above shopfront to right at 1st floor (early 20th century); single recessed window with margins to left. 3 irregularly spaced windows at 2nd floor. Single window at attic to gablehead.

12-pane timber windows at 1st floor, plate glass timber sash and case windows at 2nd and attic floors. Grey slate roof; coped brick stacks; circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Plaque by door of No 73 reads, "Here stood the Laigh Tolbooth, pre 17th century."
