Late 19th century. 3-storey, 3-bay classical tenement with modern shopfront at ground. Polished ashlar. Cornice to shopfront; banded rustication to half-window height at 1st floor; 2nd floor cill course; banded frieze; cornice; balustraded parapet with pedimented central panel. Giant flanking pilasters to outer left and right.
SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central entrance to shop at ground; 2-leaf glazed modern door; letterbox fanlight; shop windows flanking; recessed timber door to outer right. Regular fenestration at upper floors; consoled pediments to 1st floor windows, architraves rising from termination of banded rustication.
Plate glass timber sash and case windows to upper floors. Roof (unseen 1998); coped brick stacks; circular cans.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998.
Nos 146-176 High Street were rebuilt on a new set-back street line following the Ayr Burgh Act (1885), which made provision for the widening of the High Street.
