Description

Graveyard to the Auld Kirk of Ayr. Predominantly headstone graves, several column and tablet memorials; many gravestones now set in boundary wall. Dated from 17th century onwards, predominantly 19th century.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND LAMP STANDARD: coped rubble boundary wall enclosing site; wrought-iron iron lamp standard and birdcage lantern located near gateway (see separate list description).

Statement of Interest

Near the path by the river, is a stone erected to the seven martyrs who were hanged at Ayr in 1666 for religious dissension. The Rev William Adair Monument to the NE commemorates the first minister of the church (see separate list descriptions for Auld Kirk of Ayr and Gateway).
