Description

Later 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay villa with recessed bay to outer right. Channelled ashlar. Base course; ground and 1st floor cill courses; modillion cornice; blocking course. Aprons to window openings; pilaster mullions.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central, columned and pedimented entrance porch; fluted columns; trigylph and disc frieze; disc markings to battered margined doorframe; timber door; letterbox fanlight; single window aligned above at 1st floor. Bipartite windows at both floors to flanking bays. Steps to timber door to recessed bay to outer right; additional opening to re-entrant angle.

Plate glass timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; stone skews; rooflight; coped gablehead stacks; circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

RAILINGS AND BOUNDARY WALL: railings surmount low coped boundary wall; vehicular entrances to outer left and right.

Statement of Interest

Miller Place (as it was originally named, after Provost Hugh Miller) was laid out as a turnpike road in 1846, but houses were not erected until the 1850s/1860s.
