Description

Early 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay tenement with shops at ground floor. Painted render. Cornice to shopfronts; cornice; strip quoin to outer left. Painted margins to 1st floor windows.

NE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central later 19th century doorpiece with segmental pediment and lugged architrave; nailhead spandrels to hoodmould; timber door; letterbox fanlight. Shops flanking at ground floor; modern aluminium glazed door to right of shop to left, shop window to left; glazed modern door to left of shop to right, shop window to right. Regular fenestration at 1st floor.

Plate glass timber sash and case windows at 1st floor (louvred upper sash to outer left); Grey slate roof; rooflights; stone skews; coped stacks (stack to outer right stepped); polygonal cans.

INTERIORS: not seen 1998.

The street was developed along the lines of a lane in the 19th century, to give access to a new Butter Market on its N side.
