Description

Thomas O'Beirne, 1929-30. 3-storey, 3-bay classical tenement with commercial premises at ground floor. Ashlar. Corniced ground floor shopfront; cornice; blocking course. Projecting cills and moulded surrounds to windows at 1st and 2nd floors; cornices to 1st floor windows only.

NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 2 recessed glazed timber entrance doors to outer right; multi-paned letterbox fanlights; pilasters frame shop window to outer left; fascia above. Regular fenestration at upper floors (bipartite central windows).

Shop windows at ground; 6-pane to upper sashes of timber sash and case windows at upper floors. Grey slate roof; rooflight; mutual coped stacks with adjacent buildings; circular cans (to left).

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

A respectful infill in the predominantly early 19th century stretch of Sandgate, borrowing classical details from its earlier neighbours. Former fire station, built at a cost of ?8074.
