Description

John Eaglesham (engineer), 1900. Steel and iron footbridge crossing the River Ayr. Steel; cast-iron parapet; red sandstone rusticated piers. 5 segmental arches; latticed parapets; 5 ornamental ogee-arched cast-iron open gateways with lighting.

Statement of Interest

The authors of HISTORIC AYR state that the Dukit Stream Ford provided access across the River Ayr before the erection of the current bridge. The bridge is named after the Mr Turner, who generously funded the footbridge (Dodd, p351).
