Description

Circa 1848. 2-storey, 3-bay Italianate villa with recessed tower. Coursed sandstone and harl. Eaves course; cornice; timber eaves. Bracketed outer bay window openings.

SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 3-stage recessed tower to outer left; single windows at 1st and 2nd stages; tripartite window at 3rd stage. Ball-finialed gatepiers lead to central square-headed entrance; 2-leaf timber door; letterbox fanlight; bipartite window aligned above at centre; framed with coupled antae opening; balustraded balcony. Regular fenestration to canted bay to left. Tripartite fenestration to rectangular bay to right. Entrance to 3A via return to right; flat-roofed garage covering over.

SE ELEVATION: not seen 1999.

NE ELEVATION: asymmetrical; bipartite window to centre of 1st floor; piend-roofed addition to right, window to ground floor, tripartite window breaking eaves above; modern conservatory to right return.

NW ELEVATION: tower to right (see above); regular fenestration to bay to left.

Plate glass and lying-pane timber sash and case windows. Slate roof; coped pitch stacks; polygonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: square-plan gatepiers; ball finials atop to No 3; iron gates; coped boundary wall enclosing site.

Statement of Interest

Good example of Italianate villa architecture, of particular note for its recessed square-plan tower.
