Description

Later 19th century. Quadrilateral plan form with shop facade in narrow S facing frontage (40 High Street). 2-storey and attic, irregular bays facing Castle Street and Old Castlegate. Dark local whinstone, constrasting ashlar dressings and margins. Irregular street frontage to Old Castlegate; roundheaded recessed doorway with similar shaped stair window above. Further doorway to right. 2 canted wallhead dormers to Old Castlegate; mainly 4- pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Coped stacks; slate roof.

Statement of Interest

Street frontages to High Street (shop No 40) and Castle Street. Note that The Royal Bank of Scotland (see separate listing), which is opposite this property, is also recorded as 40 High Street.
