Description

Originally John Mitchell, master mason, 1780, as single storey school; raised to 2 storeys, 1805. Regular 2-storey, 6-bay building with round-headed keystoned off-centre entrance, double-leaf panelled door and regular fenestration. Rubble,painted ashlar margins. Ground and 1st floor window in W return gable;

Harled 2-storey rear wing of 4 bays; ground floor as garages, regular lst floor fenestration.

2-pane glazing in all upper lights of timber sash and case windows, single pane in lower. Coped end stacks; slate roof.

Statement of Interest

Originally constructed as Banff Grammar School in l780 as single storey building with pediment and bellcote. Bellcote might be that now on Old Smithy, Old Market Place. Rebuilt in present form in l805. Superseded as Grammar School by Banff Academy, l838 (now Banff Primary School).
