Description

Probably 1830/40, perhaps incorporating an existing

house. Picturesque villa set high above main road. Single

storey with raised basement and with attic. Whin rubble with

contrasting long-and-short worked yellow ashlar dressings: timber-mullioned and transomed windows with original

small-paned glazing. 3-bay main (south east) elevation has

shallow advanced wide gable left, bowed at ground, with

cast-iron balustrade over; inner doorway approached by

steps, recessed door with fanlight; stone wallhead dormer

right. Parapet; shaped and finialed skews; end stacks;

slate roofs.

Statement of Interest

"Lands of the Cambs" bought by James Steel 2.11.1789 from

Hon Charles Fleming, and then by George Gillespie of Biggar

Park in 1820.
