Description

Late 18th century. 2-storey and attic, 5-bay flatted dwelling with out-of-character late 20th century shop at ground. Ashlar, painted, with raised margins and quoin strips; harl to side and rear. Base course, bracketted ground floor cornice and eaves course. Fluted Doric pilasters with triglyphed entablatures above eaves and supporting open-pedimented gablet. Keystoned round-headed window.

N (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: ground floor with door to centre and multi-pane fixed windows in flanking bays; 5 regularly-disposed windows to 1st floor and small round-headed window to centre gablet with 3 Velux rooflights to flanking roof pitches.

E ELEVATION: blank gabled elevation.

S (REAR) ELEVATION: altered elevation with variety of elements including advanced gable to left and extension to right.

12-pane glazing pattern and decoratively-astragalled upper sash over 6-pane lower sash to gablet, all in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Coped harled and ashlar stacks with some cans; ashlar-coped skews with scroll skewputts.

Statement of Interest

A distinguishing earlier essay among the late Victorian commercial design of South Street, with scope for character reinstatement.
