Description

J W & J H Hay, Liverpool, 1856. Mid-pointed, cruciform,
orientated N. rubble-built, with S broach spire, 108' high;
low broad 3-bay nave with steep roof, lower transepts, apse;
interesting treatment of tower and spire, massive diagonal
buttresses containing broad flight of steps to door of 2
orders, 3-light curvilinear window 2nd stage, triple lancets
stepped in the broaches of the spire 3rd stage, 2-light
lucarnes at spire, 2 tiers of smaller gablets above. S bays
of nave have tall 2-light curvilinear windows raised in
gablets, N 2 bays depressed-arch 2-lights. Slated roofs. Fine
setting well back from street with avenue approach.
