Earlier 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay, rectangular plan house. Narrow coursed, stugged ashlar and squared rubble; dividing band course and eaves cornice, long and short quoins, architraved doorcase and raised margins.
SE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Steps up to 2-leaf, part-glazed door at centre, windows in flanking bays and regular windows at 1st floor, 2 modern rooflights above bay to right.
NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Door at centre behind modern lean-to glazed porch, windows in flanking bays and regular windows at 1st floor, 19th century rooflight.
SW ELEVATION: window at 1st floor off-centre to left, blinded window above in gablehead.
NE ELEVATION: adjoining single storey outbuilding.
Plate glass glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Broad, coped ashlar gablehead stacks with polygonal cans, ashlar coped skews and thackstanes.
INTERIOR: curved staircase with decorative cast-iron balusters and timber handrail.
OUTBUILDINGS AND BOUNDARY WALLS: slated L-plan outbuilding adjoining house at NE, painted rubble with brickwork garage alterations and tall stack. Coped rubble boundary walls with proud coped ashlar, stop-chamfered doorway, timber door and engraved name on lintel.
Cromwell Bank is built upon ground purchased from the Town Council in 1832, and was for many years used as a doctor's surgery (the outbuildings providing necessary accommodation).
