Description

1907-1909. Asymmetrical gabled 2-storey house in English Arts
and Crafts style. Bullfaced rubble ground floor (and rear
raised basement exposed owing to sloping site), harled 1st
floor, tooled ashlar dressings. 3-bay S frontage to York
Place with shallow jettied and bracketted 1st floor and with
recessed arched entrance in outer SW bay under continuous
sweep of main roof. Projecting canted ground floor window in
S, E and W elevations; canted oriel in 1st floor of S front.
2-bay W elevation with 1st floor windows under shallow
canopies. 2-, 3- and 4-light single pane casement windows
with multi-pane glazing in upper lights. Brick ridge stacks;
red tiled roof.
INTERIOR: simple interior; plain moulded ceiling cornices in
3 ground floor public rooms. Sitting room with original
chimneypiece within round-arched inglenook; wooden
chimneypiece with cushioned lintel below mantel-shelf with
simple carved centre decoration; similar chimneypieces in 2
further ground floor rooms. Deep moulded skirting boards.
GARDEN WALLS: garden and house enclosed by high harled rubble
walls.

Statement of Interest

Said to have been built for a tea-planter settling in Cullen.

Corner site with York Place and Seafield Road.
