Description

18th century, later 19th century frontage. 2-storey, 3-bay house. Base course, eaves course, window architraves and advanced long and short quoins to principal elevation. Rendered.

SW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: central window (former door), pilastered surrounds. Flanking bipartite windows. Continuous corniced frieze above windows. 3 1st floor windows centred above, at eaves. Spur stone to left.

NW ELEVATION: door to centre left; gatepost to left; 1st floor window above left. Rear wing set back slightly to left; window to right; 2-leaf door to left; passage opening to far left. 2 1st floor windows hug eaves.

NE ELEVATION: attached to 10 Back Causeway.

SE ELEVATION: former central architraved shop front; bipartite window to right; blocked to left; corniced frieze. 1st floor window to left. Rear wing to right; 2 ground floor windows; window in right return. 1st floor set back; window to left; canted bow window to right. Passage door to far right; jettied 1st floor; window above door.

Predominantly 2-pane timber sash and case windows with horns. Timber and glazed doors; timber boarded door to passage. Pitched slated roof; corniced gable apex stacks; polygonal stacks; scroll skewputts. Rear pitched slated wing.

INTERIOR: not seen, 2001.

Statement of Interest

Formerly a shop, The Tron House was converted back into a house in 1989. The SE corner of this building was cut away with a door set within the angle and with large shop windows to the principal elevation. Formerly listed as Betty's Corner Shop and House (Mrs E C Adamson). Not to be confused with the other Tron House (Mrs Porteous) to the W of the Town-House.
