Tall, roughly squared rubble walls line Newgate; averaging 8 feet tall with replacement coping stones. Doorways to E; moulded architrave (currently in disrepair, 2001) to NE; doorway and wall to Rose Cottage garden to SE. Doorways to SW; wall joins Newgate House garden wall. Narrow lane to NW (Cat's Close), walls have been heightened to approximately 10 feet tall.
Formerly listed as Walls Bounding Newgate and Lane Connecting it to Kirk Street. The Newgate was the original entrance to the abbey and is clearly depicted by Slezer, leading to the Abbey Church. It now curves to the W and joins Kirk Street.
