Description

Dated 1906. 2-storey corner block with shop at ground, and Glasgow Style corner tower. Red sandstone ashlar; rendered geometric tile facing to shop front at ground to W and S; E elevation harled. Timber modillioned eaves course.

W (ESKBANK ROAD) ELEVATION: bipartite window at 1st floor to left; corniced panel inscribed "1906" to right. Window and door to left at ground, modern display windows to right; modern fascia.

CORNER BAY: canted display window at ground. Corniced canted tripartite window at 1st floor, keystoned centre light, moulded cill. Raised to turret above 1st floor; garland and shield-detailed eaves course. felted domed roof with corniced eaves and tapering finial.

S (CROFT STREET) ELEVATION: door to right, modern display windows to left. Window to right at 1st floor; tall shouldered corniced stack to left with decorative corbel. Elevation lower to right; 3 windows at ground; bipartite window and 4 windows at 1st floor.

N ELEVATION: rubble above adjoining building, No 15 Eskbank Road.

E ELEVATION: harled above adjoining building, Nos 1-5 Croft Street.

Plate glass glazing pattern in sash and case windows, some 2-pane upper sashes. Coped skews. Gablehead stacks to N and E. Grey-green slates. Steeply pitched roof to W, piended behind turret. Original rainwater goods.

Statement of Interest

Listed for its strategic position and decorative corner tower, despite unfortunate shop front.
