Description

Robert J Naismith, 1959. 3-storey asymmetric traditionally influenced L-plan tenement with slightly taller recessed stair bays between bay to outer left and 4-bay block to right. Variegated cream sandstone random rubble to E elevation; remaining elevations harled. Ashlar dressings. Raised narrow cills. Eaves course. Subtle keystone details above some windows. Roll-moulded door surrounds; boarded doors.

E (HIGH STREET) ELEVATION: tripartite window to each floor of crowstepped gabled bay to outer left. Quarter-turn steps to door (No 153) in right bay of recessed stair bays with 2 windows to each. Right block: 3 irregular bays at ground with door (No 155) to left of centre, flanked by window to left, and tripartite window to right. Regular fenestration at 1st and 2nd floors, grouped 3-1.

S (HUNT CLOSE) ELEVATION: 4-bay. Outer right bay blank rubble, bay to right of centre blank. Regular fenestration to each floor in 2 bays to left.

W ELEVATION: low 2-storey contemporary harled and pantiled range

running W adjoined to gable jab to right. Regularly disposed fenestration to 4 bays to left.

N ELEVATION: adjoined to Nos 161 and 163 High Street (see separate listing) by extant gable wall of previously neighbouring building.

Variety of small-pane glazing patterns in various sized sash and case windows, mainly 12-pane glazing on E elevation. Canopied stacks to right on E and W pitches. Grey slates.

B Group with Nos 161 and 163, 165-169, 186 and 188, 190-194, 196 and 198, 200, 212 and 214, and 216 and 218 High Street.
