Description

James Thomson of Glasgow, architect. Built 1895. 2 tall
square inner gatepiers with Renaissance details; panelled,
with strings and crests, corniced and finialed; smaller
simplified piers to pedestrian entrance. Polished ashlar.
Elaborately decorated wrought-iron gates. Long quadrant walls
extend to north and south; stugged ashlar, with polished
coping and partly pierced with circles and diamonds.

Statement of Interest

A bronze plaque on one pier states that the gates, gatepiers

and walls were gifted to Dumbarton Town Council by Mr Taggart

and Mickel, built October 1950.
