Description

Style of George Mathewson circa 1850, with later wing to E. Detached 2-storey 3-bay villa. Coursed rubble with ashlar dressings.

S elevation: central consoled and corniced doorpiece. Advanced gabled bay to right with V-bay at ground. Gabletted single light over. Lugged architraves. Set-back bay to right and single storey aviary to left. Wing to left refronted circa 1980.

Rear: later outside stair for access to 1st floor. Gabled slate roof with wallhead and ridge stacks. Windows sash and case, 4-pane glazing pattern.

Square pyramdecal-capped gatepiers with delicate wrought iron lamp bracket over. Low ashlar boundary walls to Laurel Bank with modern railings. High ashlar boundary walls to Prospect Place. Shaped garden wall to right of East wing. Garden recently terraced with brick retaining wall to E side.

Statement of Interest

Perhaps built by Hean the builder (of St Peter's Church) for himself. Flatted. Afterwards St Paul's Manse.
