Description

James Murray Robertson, 1883. 2-storey ashlar villa.
Continuous 1st floor cill course. Overhanging eaves and
projecting bargeboarded gables.
S elevation: 3 asymmetrical bays with central 3-storey
pavilion-roofed tower, right bay advanced and gabled with
ground-floor canted balustraded bay. 1st floor hoodmould
tripartite. Central ground floor 3-light French window.
Heavy consoles carry 1st floor balustraded balcony,
accessed by double door. 2nd floor tripartite with swagged
aprons. Flat projecting balustraded ground floor bay to
left, tripartite above.
E elevation: single windows. Advanced porch with heavy
consoles and balustrade. Gable over. Single storey service wing.
W elevation: single and bipartite windows, 1 gable. Lower
service wing with gablet.
Gabled slate roofs with bracketted overhanging eaves and
curved decoration to bargeboards. Wrought-iron finials
and weather-vane to tower. Corniced stacks. Sash and case
windows, 2-pane glazing pattern.
INTERIOR: notable stained glass (Daniel Cottier?) stair
and porch windows. George and Dragon mosaic in porch.
Chimneypieces include mosaic and Walter Scott narrative
tile surrounds. Some alterations for office conversion.
LODGE: single storey, with swept roofed porch and canted
window to W in advanced gable. Treatment of gables similar
to main house. Deep eaves and finials. Ridge stack.
Square, pyramid-capped gatepiers with incised decoration.
