Description

Late 18th century, E wing mid 19th century. 2-storey, L-plan inn. Harled, painted margins, slate roof.

KING STREET ELEVATION: wide gable at left; base course, angle margin at left, slightly off-centre margined door with large-paned window adjoining at left, cross window at right. Carved eagle by James Law circa 1860 at 1st floor centre, flanking 4-pane sash and case windows, 2 symmetrical windows at attic. Skew gable with skewputts and coped stack.

Elevation at right (mid 19th century): base course, 2 margined doors with 6-pane window at right, two 4-pane sash and case windows at 1st floor, coped gable stack at right.

FORT STREET ELEVATION: base course, angle margin at right; margined door at left, band course at 1st floor level; central bipartite window at 1st floor, flanking 4-pane sash and case. skew gable with skewputt and truncated brick stack at left.

Statement of Interest

Band course at 1st floor level continues at 48 and 50 Fort Street. Previous list notes James Law as sculptor of eagle.
