Earlier-mid 19th century. 2-storey and attic; terrace comprising 2 houses and 2 shops with flat above; formerly 2 3-bay houses and one 4-bay house (No 32, possibly with ground floor shop or office originally). Built in 2 separate stages (Nos 30 and 32 slightly earlier). Pilastered doorcases to Nos 30 and 32. Coursed dressed sandstone with ashlar dressings to principal (S) elevation; coursed rubble elsewhere. Base course to principal elevation of Nos 30 and 32; continuous eaves course. Coped gables.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 10 bays; regularly fenestrated to 1st floor. Glazed 20th shopfronts to Nos 26 and 28; both with recessed late 20th century glazed timber doors with rectangular fanlights; late 20th century panelled timber door to outer left. Central entrance with flanking pilasters supporting simple entablature to No 30; panelled timber door with rectangular fanlight; flanking windows. Identical entrance with similar (earlier) timber door to No 32; flanking windows and one to outer right. Polygonal piended dormer windows to flanking outer bays of No 32 and one to right of No 30; boxed dormers to flanking outer bays over shopfronts to No 26.
N ELEVATION: catslide dormer stair windows to centre of Nos 30 and 32 (latter rendered over). Irregular fenestration, apart from to No 30. Small rendered extension to rear of Nos 24-28.
W ELEVATION: window to right of 1st floor.
Mainly 4 and 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof. 4 droved sandstone stacks, including gableheads at either end of terrace; each with band course, except for that to W which has moulded coping; round and octagonal cans.
INTERIORS: not inspected (1998).
Short terrace of plain classical houses, Nos 30 and 32 with more generous window openings and pilastered doorpieces and constructed in finer coursed sandstone ashlar.
