Description

James Harley and Alexander Crombie, contractors. Built 1751-3
as paupers' hospital. 2 storeys off-set above basement;
symmetrical H-plan with 3-bay centre, advanced single outer
bays. Painted render and contrasting ashlar margins.
Principal E elevation with rusticated central doorway
(modern door), approached by steps, shaped panel above linked
to 1st floor cill of (?enlarged) timber-mullioned tripartite.
Plate glass sash windows; eaves/lintel band; cornice; pair
massive axial stacks; open-worked timber axial ventilator;
slated pavilion roofs.
Rear addition.
