Description

Peddie and Kinnear, 1864. 2-storey, 5-bay, H-plan, former
poorhouse, with advanced outer bays. Squared and snecked
whinstone with ashlar dressings. Plinth, 1st floor cill
course, eaves course. Chamfered reveals.
N ELEVATION: door to centre; segmentally arched hoodmould
with keystone, strip fanlight. Segmentally arched windows to
flanking bays at ground floor, bipartite to wings with stone
mullions. Windows to each bay at 1st floor, bipartite to
wings.
S (REAR) ELEVATION: central projecting 2-storey wing with
irregular fenestration, detailed as N elevation. Broad
wallhead stack to S. Single storey, piend-roofed laundry wing
adjoined at right angles, with cupola to right of centre,
and rendered stack.
E AND W ELEVATIONS: window to outer bays at ground floor.
1st floor windows grouped at centre, detailed as above.
Harled projections to centre at ground floor.
Sash and case windows with 8-lying pane glazing pattern.
Grey slates to piended roof with finials, skylights at
rear; bracketted eaves. Corner stacks with moulded
base course and cornice.
