George Craig, 1898. 3-storey, basement and attic corner tenement with shop at ground floor. Red sandstone, polished ashlar to principal elevations, rendered to rear and side. Continuous cornice above ground floor; moulded band course above 1st floor; eaves band and cornice; ground floor openings with stop-chamfered reveals; casemates with glass bricks; shopfront with louvred stallrisers, shop windows with inter-war style border glazing (some with ornamental ventilation insets), original awning fittings.
SW (DUKE STREET) ELEVATION: 6-bay including corner bay; rounded corner bay to outer right with display window at ground floor, single window at 1st floor, square projection at 2nd floor rising from corbels, French pavilion roof with ornamental iron brattishing. Entrance to shop to next bay with curved glazed ingoes and tiled doorway ?T Smith & Son?; single windows above. Secondary doorway to outer left. Display and single windows to remaining bays. 3 velux rooflights to mansard roof.
SE (ACADEMY STREET) ELEVATION: 4-bay; 2 tall doorways to right with 2-leaf panelled doors, plate glass fanlights
(to right lettering 'Lansbury Apartments?); bipartite windows to 1st and 2nd floor above. Display windows to left bays; single windows above; 2 rectangular dormers.
NW (REAR) ELEVATION: irregularly-spaced windows; 2 wallhead stacks.
4-pane timber sash and case windows, at 1st floor with timber (?) infill at top. Slate mansard roof; 2 wallhead stacks (see above). Moulded eaves gutters.
INTERIOR: shop interior with heavily moulded beams, ornate plaster ceiling and cornices.
Built for Messrs Smith & Sons, bakers and confectioners as business premises. The 1st and 2nd floor rooms were fitted with air inlet ducts and electric extractor fans. Now converted to residential use.
