Description

Early 19th century with later addition. Single story with basement, 3-bay end of terrace classical house. Finely droved ashlar, polished ashlar dressings; harled rear, extension and SW elevation; rubble to NE elevation. Band course (between ground floor and level), moulded impost course, cornice and blocking course; every opening in segmental-arched recesses.

NW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical; 4 modern steps to field-panelled Edinburgh door at centre, rectangular plate glass fanlight above; windows to each bay flanking; vents to basement.

SE (REAR) ELEVATION: large extension to centre.

12-pane timber sash and case windows to principal elevation; plate glass timber sash and case to rear; 2 glazed 2-leaf doors to SW elevation of extension with plate glass rectangular fanlights above. Slate piended roof with platform at apex; slate piended roof to extension. Rendered and coped wallhead stack to NE; harled and coped wallhead stack to SW.

INTERIOR: main house interior remodelled folowing an outbreak of dry rot. Fine decorative compartmented plaster ceiling to rear extension (circa 1840)

BOUNDARY WALL: droved ashlar with modern moulded concrete coping.

Statement of Interest

The SW elevation shows signs that the terrace was initially intended to extend further S. The extension to the rear was present on Sutter's map of 1856. The listing includes No 15A Rosefield Avenue.
