Description

James Gillespie Graham. 1816. Single storey and attic, circular plan stables squared at NW, NE, SW and SE. Coursed cream sandstone coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. Base course; cornice and blocking course; long and short surrounds and quoins.

SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 3-bay; central advanced bay breaking eaves with attic and pediment; central, round-arched carriage gate with band course and decoratively carved panel above; inscription panel to pediment; single windows in recessed, round-arched panels in bays to outer left and right.

SE, NW AND NE ELEVATIONS AND CURVED LINKING BLOCKS: 4-bay advanced squared blocks; 3-bay curved blocks; single windows and some stable doors at ground (NW elevation has doorways only); small single windows to attic above.

All window openings blocked. The stables have been recently re-roofed in grey slate; corniced ridge stacks. Former stable court roofed with tent canopy.
