Statement of Interest

B Group with Nos 1-8 Fishmarket Square, Nos 40-42 Main Street and Nos 1-8 Wester Close (see separate list entries). Plans by Ian Lindsay & Partners (1971) for the development and refurbishment of Fishmarket Square indicate that this block originally had an exterior stair to the front with 2 storeys and a basement. Indeed, the 1970 listing describes it as being "2-storey and basement, harled with forestair". Despite the plans stating that the building "is not included in the contract... to be left untouched", subsequent alterations display features similar to those within Lindsay?s remit. Note, the harling and limewash, the smooth cement surrounds to openings, the red pantiles and the timber sash and case windows. Despite their irregularity, the homogeneity of elevations in both Wester Close and Fishmarket Square has been retained. Previously listed as No 12 Wester Close with No 11 and Nos 3 and 4 Fishmarket Square.
