Description

Earlier 19th century. Single-storey, 4-bay cottage on steeply sloping site with basement to N end. Roughly coursed sandstone rubble with droved ashlar quoins and window dressings. Central timber panelled door with flanking windows (bipartite to left). Short section to right with higher skews, but same ridge height; blocked doorway and window to outer right. Timber panelled door and small window at basement of N gable.

12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Gable-head stacks with ashlar copes and yellow clay cans. Ashlar-coped skews. Graded grey slate.

BOUNDARY WALLS: coped random rubble boundary walls enclosing garden; later cast-iron gate and railings above wall to N.

Statement of Interest

A traditional cottage which fronts directly onto the stepped wynd that leads from Bridge Road to Spylaw Street. The section to the S was probably built as a separate cottage. The chimney stack at the N gable is original; the other two are recent replacements.
