Description

Early 19th century; 12-bay (grouped 3-5-4) 3-storey with attic and basement, terraced tenement with later 19th century shopfront and carriage pend in bays to right at ground. Sandstone ashlar. Cill band at 1st floor, projecting cills at 2nd, string course at 3rd with mutuled cornice, fascia bands to shopfronts.

NE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION:

9 bays to ground with 3, late 19th century shopfronts in outer bays to left, recessed entrance bay between shopfronts to right, timber door with fanlight, nookshafts to basket-arched windows with decorative capitals and shared mutuled cornice. Carriage pend at centre bay, segmental-arched and keystoned with 2 windowed bays above.

Basement with spearheaded railings to 4 bays to right, entrance at penultimate bay to right, panelled timber door with sidelights and round-arched fanlight, fenestration in flanking bays. Regular fenestration above.

Timber sash and case windows with 12-pane glazing, 6 tripartite piended dormers above, towering mutual ridge stack with terracotta cans, grey slates.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Reconstruction of neighbouring corner block after fire, caused work of rehabilitation at No 10 Union Street.
