Description

John Oliver, circa 1859. Single storey and basement, symmetrical 3-bay rectangular-plan classical villa with basement and recessed single storey single bay wings. Squared and snecked stugged sandstone rubble. Base course; cornice; blocking course; strip quoins; droved grey sandstone long and short surrounds to windows.

SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: advanced pedimented central bay with steps to pilastered and corniced doorpiece; 4-panelled timber door with plate glass fanlight; single windows to flanking bays and to wings.

NW (SIDE) ELEVATION: single windows to 3 bays to left, window to bay to right smaller; bay to outer right (wing at left of main elevation) advanced.

NE (REAR) ELEVATION: small blind window to centre; single windows to flanking bays.

12-pane timber sash and case windows to front; 15- and 12-pane timber sash and case windows to sides and rear. Grey slate piended roof; corniced wallhead stacks to NW and SE.

INTERIOR: not seen 1997.

Statement of Interest

A late Georgian survival type villa, constructed for the builder John Oliver, probably to his own design. Originally known as Viewforth House, and rented to Rev Thomas Maclauchlan.

Change to statutory address (2014). Previous statutory address was '104 Viewforth, Kellyden, Including Boundary Walls'.
