Description

Circa 1863. 2-storey (1st floor breaking eaves), 3-bay rectangular-plan Italianate villa with tower to E and service wing to W; subdivided. Squared and snecked sandstone rubble with polished ashlar dressings. Base course; cornice; quoin strips; segmental-arched windows at 1st floor, with roll-moulded arrises.

E ELEVATION: square-section tower advanced to centre, flanked by blank bays. Square-section 3-storey tower: architraved doorway on S return; panelled door; plate glass fanlight; raised surround, bracketted cill and cill course to segmental-arched windows to 3 faces at 1st floor; bipartite round-arched windows with aprons to 3 faces at 2nd floor; single round-arched window to W face at 2nd floor; bracketted cornice; pyramidal roof; cast-iron weathervane finial.

S (DALRYMPLE CRESCENT) elevation: full-height canted window with dividing cornice and fluted aprons to central bay. Small window between bays. Advanced tripartite window at ground floor to outer left with cornice supporting cast-iron window guard to pedimented bipartite window at 1st floor. Service wing recessed and attached to outer left.

W ELEVATION: single storey piend-roofed service wing at ground floor. Single pedimented segmental-arched window with raised surrounds and bracketted cill breaking eaves to outer right. Stairwindow with margin panes at 1st floor to centre.

Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate piended roof; lead flashing; corniced stack with moulded octagonal cans to towerhead; 2 corniced stacks to W; moulded square cans; moulded eaves guttering; finial to canted bay.

INTERIORS: not seen 1990.

BOUNDARY WALLS: high mutual walls and boundary wall to street.
