Description

Circa 1860. 2-storey, irregular-plan villa with on corner site with service wing to rear. Coursed stugged sandstone with droved margins. Chamfered reveals. W WHITEHOUSE LOAN elevation: 3-bay. Timber and glass lean-to conservatory forming entrance in bay to outer right. Advanced and gable central bay; single windows to both floors; corbelled gablehead stack. Single windows in bay to outer left, that at 1st floor breaking eaves in pedimented and finialled dormerhead.

S HOPE TERRACE elevation: architraved doorway at centre; panelled door; plate glass fanlight; pedimented and finialled window breaking eaves at 1st floor above. Single storey canted window in advanced and gabled bay to outer left; hoodmoulded window at 1st floor above; obelisk finial to gablehead. 2 windows at ground to right; pedimented and finialled window breaking eaves at 1st floor above. 4-pane and 8-pane sash and case windows. Grey slate gabled roof; tall shouldered and corniced gablehead and ridge stacks; coped gables with kneelers; block skewputts.

INTERIOR: not seen 1991.

BOUNDARY WALLS: high coped boundary wall to Whitehouse Loan; 2 pyramidal capped gatepiers; low boundary walls with modern timber fencing to Hope Terrace; modern detached flat-roofed garage to NW of house.
