Description

George Wilson, 1882. 4-storey, 4-bay tenement with Jacobean details, forming part of terrace. Squared and snecked sandstone with contrasting polished ashlar dressings. Base course; cill course at 1st floor; string course at 3rd floor; raised window surrounds; chamfered reveals.

E ENTRANCE elevation: paired pedimented doorways in 3rd bay; panelled doors; margin-paned fanlights; single windows above; scrolled open pediment to 3rd floor window. Single windows in 2nd bay; scrolled open pediment to 3rd floor window. Curvilinear gable with gablehead stack linking 2nd and 3rd bays; pedimented initial and date panel set in gablehead. Full-height canted windows in bays to outer elft and right; dividing cornice at 1st floor shaped aprons to 3rd floor windows; ogee roofs with lead finials. Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey-green slate roof; corniced gablehead stack; coped mutual stacks; scroll skewputts. INTERIORS: not seen 1991.

Low coped boundary to street.

Designed for Simon Henderson, baker. There are a number of differences between the Dean of Guild plans and the detailing of the building as executed.
