Description

Dated 1520 and 1858. Large L-plan 2-storey and attic house
of late 15th/early 16th century origin, with
considerable subsequent alterations and additions.
Rubble with some harling; ashlar dressings. Of the
early date little remains visible; 17th century rolled
mouldings to SE windows, and large chimney and
guarderobe corbelled out at N elevation. Most windows
enlarged late 18th/early 19th century when large 3-storey
bowed bay with semi-conical roof added to W elevation.
Mid 19th century present entrance inserted in broad
bowed full height bay in re-entrant angle; corbelled
gabled hood to door; corbelled 2nd storey with 2
wallhead pedimented dormers, similarly pedimented
decorative dormers on S and E elevations.
Later 19th century single storey and attic T-plan
extension with advanced outer gable bay to E and W.
All gables crowstepped; coped chimney stacks; slated roofs.
INTERIOR: barrel vaulted ground floor; scale and plat
staircase probably of late 17th century date.
LODGE: picturesque mid 19th century asymmetrical gabled
lodge of 2 storeys and attic; coursed rubble and
harling; ashlar dressings. Gabled porch; canted bay to
E; cusped window below coped stack with 3 diamond
corniced flues. Decorative bargeboards; slate roof.

Statement of Interest

1520 datestone is 19th century renewal. Originally

Deanery; passed to Dunbars of Burgie at Reformation;

purchased by James Robertson in 1784.

Property divided into 3 separate dwellings.
